My PhD consits of two main threads, both related to the main theme: estimating animal density/abundance using novel sampling techniques. The main focus is on abundance estimation for sharks using genetics through close-kin mark-recapture, and the other focus is on estimating the population size of bowhead whales using acoustic spatial capture-recapture, where only calls that were detected on at least two hydrophones were included.
