Abstract

I will discuss aspects of animal movement modelling and assessment of habitat usage in marine species in an applied context. The examples will outline some current approaches to practical analysis of large data sets, assessments of habitat usage and preference and how telemetry technology might be used for estimating demographic parameters. The talk will use examples from several Australian species as examples. Broader issues and problems in developing useful and robust models for animal movement will be discussed.
